ASBL 30: Stephen Huey, House Candidate for Texas, District 18

Stephen Huey is running as a Democrat for Congress in Texas’ 18th District in a special 2025 election this November. He has 20 years’ experience in energy, finance, and healthcare. He described his reasons for running, his goals for his community, the economy and jobs, and the cost of living, and more.

From StephenHueyForCongress.com:

“WHY I’M RUNNING TO REPRESENT TX-18”

“Our nation is called the land of opportunity, where working hard means getting ahead, not barely getting by. Where families can afford groceries, get the healthcare they need, and send their kids to good schools that will equip them for the future.”

“But the system is failing too many people in our community. Our leaders are cutting food assistance, attacking education, and eliminating healthcare for millions. They promised affordable housing and a lower cost of living, but we are already seeing tariffs increase prices. The people in power keep playing political games, protecting special interests, and telling us to wait our turn. We’re not waiting.”

“I’m running for Congress because I believe it’s time to stop settling and start building a future where hard work pays off and where the government finally puts people before profits. My wife and I want our four kids to have that kind of future. I’ll draw on my 20 years of experience in energy, finance, and healthcare to work with anyone to lower costs, protect your rights, and deliver real results.”

We also discussed the ASBL’s Don’t Cheat Women project, which wants Congress to:

Raise from 5% to 15% the federal contract dollars that must go to women-owned small businesses.

Women are half the population. They own 40% of all businesses. But they get less than 5% of federal contract dollars. Men get at least 95%.

Without economic fairness, women can’t be political equals.

The American Small Business League is an advocacy group working to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to big businesses. Our Don’t Cheat Women project (DontCheatWomen.com) seeks economic fairness for women so they can be political equals. Men hold more political offices and have more political influence simply because they earn and save more than women. Our economy will boom when only small businesses get “small business” contracts.
